We’re celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month by encouraging DentalPlans.com Members and Fans to share funny stories about teaching their kids to brush their teeth. At the end of the month, we’ll randomly pick a “Share Your Story” participant to win a free discount dental plan or a plan renewal. Here’s one of the stories we’ve already received:
I remember teaching my children the importance of brushing their teeth everyday. I told them it was important that they brush in the morning and at night but especially after meals so they didn’t walk around with food stuck to their teeth. I told them if the tooth fairy ever came by and saw that they did not brush, they would just be passed up and not get anything from him. My kids must have remembered that speech so well that when one of them lost a tooth and placed it under the pillow for the tooth fairy, I got a surprise. The tooth was covered in tooth paste and made a mess on his pillow. When I asked him about it the next day he said he wanted to make sure the tooth was clean so that the tooth fairy would not pass him up!! I am sure he will use that same speech on his kids one day! – Ben A. – Middletown, NJ

I remember telling my kids that when I was in school, they used to try to stress how good it was to brush by handing out pink pills that, when dissolved in your mouth, would show where you missed brushing. Of course, some students teeth were all pink. My children just thought that was so gross, and then they were unable to take pills after that….thinking that their mouth would turn pink. My plan backfired, and I had to try a different strategy to get them to brush.
Thanks for sharing Lisa! Did you find another plan that worked?
